Who you'd learn from

Joanne started this place. She still grooms.

So the person setting the standard is at the next table.

Her reviews keep saying the same things. She caught dandruff an owner hadn't noticed. She sends a skin and ear report after every groom. Nervous dogs settle for her. None of that is luck, and none of it is a secret.

The work

Where you'd start, and where it goes.

Four stages of a groom, dogs and cats both. You come in wherever your hands already are.

Bath, dry, brush out

Unglamorous, and where most of a groom is actually decided. You learn to feel a mat before you can see it, and what each coat type needs.

Handling and hygiene

Nails, ears, paw pads, sanitary trims. Plus holding a nervous dog so it stops being a nervous dog.

Reading skin and coat

Dryness, flaking, hot spots, ear trouble. Then telling the owner without scaring them.

Your own table

Breed styling and owner consults, start to finish. Cats too if you want them, that's a separate skill you can learn here.

Pet Groomer

$2,500 – $3,500 / month
Set by experience and skill, not a flat starting rate.

Your own table, start to finish. Read the coat, agree the style with the owner, and get the time to do it properly.

What you'd need
  • Minimum 1 year of professional grooming
  • Grooming certification
  • Able to groom on your own, with basic breed styling
  • Able to commit to weekends
